The outline problem

As previously mentioned in the blog, the outline system that I created in the first semester is fine, but due to the nature of the project, it might be a little too subtle and hard to notice for people with vision impairments. So I decided to create a new system to highlight objects.

The old system looked like this

In a nutshell, it worked only when the player was directly watching, and the material applied only highlighted the outer vertex of the object, occupying only a small percentage of the screen.

Being sincere I think that this outline is NOT successful in it's intent, it doesn't highlight in a significant way the object. It is a feature that can be considered accessible to some but it fails taking into consideration those that have visual impairments.

So I decided to create a new outline

Here is the final outline.

The colours can be easily changed (in case colourblindness switch will be in the prototype) and the level of details that shows trough the colour can be changed as well, so in case of strong visual impairments it can be lowered and the colour be accentuated to help see it.
